We took an extended anniversary/Memorial Day weekend trip to Austin, TX for a friend's wedding. We left on Thursday from St. Louis and as we feared, the plane ride was close to a total disaster. We had an hour and twenty minute flight from St. Louis to Dallas and Ally started out fine but was quickly bored and did not want to be sitting on either of our laps. We did our best to entertain her with toys, books and snacks but as we were getting ready to land she lost it and was inconsolable. Yes, we were those people in the back of the hot plane full of people waiting to get off with the screaming child. Once we got into the airport she calmed down and slept the whole 40 minute flight from Dallas to Austin.
We stayed in downtown Austin and checked out a lot of the sights and of course ate a lot of tex-mex and bbq. The wedding was on Saturday evening and Ally looked adorable in her little sunflower dress. We also were able to meet up with one of my former interns and his wife for a tour of the University of Texas on Sunday He just finished his first year of law school there so they took us around the campus, football stadium and them to eat bbq in the hill country. We really enjoyed seeing the campus and Ally didn't seem to mind the heat too much. It was near 100 degrees and humid every day. On Monday we drove an hour to San Antonio to check out the River Walk and the Alamo since I had never been there. It was very nice and we were able to do the boat cruise and eat at the first restaurant to open there, Casa Rio.
The whole trip started out pretty rough and the first few nights were not so great but as we configured a new sleeping arrangement for Ally and worked out some feeding issues, things got much better. The crib at the hotel was a tiny metal box so we ended up making her a bed by pulling the mattress off the pull out couch and putting it on the floor in the corner so she had more room. It worked wonders! We also made time to go to the pool almost every night so that made her pretty tired. Napping was a struggle some days but she made the most of it by napping while we drove around town and even in her stroller a few times while we walked around. Overall she did well once we got used to being off schedule. She did amazing on the flight home and we had none of the same issues on the way back, it was wonderful! We are not sure what the issue was on the way down but she was very happy on the way home and we were relieved. It was a short trip but it was nice to visit a new city and see some of Texas other than scary El Paso (three trips to the Sun Bowl for me is enough).

We always put them in closets at the hotel - most can fit a roll away crib. Kind of orphanage, I know. But it works.
Looks like your trip was totally fun and you had a bunch to do. Jealous - we need to go somewhere.
