Funny Things Ally Says: Cry

The other morning we had a little mini-meltdown before going to school. For whatever reason she was not interested in coming down stairs. This happens every once in a while wen she gets distracted by something more fun upstairs- no big deal. I was talking to her and telling her it was time to go get some breakfast, get shoes on but was just sort of sitting at the top of the stairs. I went down to get my stuff together and I could hear her starting to cry. I wasn't to concerned so I went to the stairs to ask her again to come down but she refused. I went back to my business and figured she would get it eventually before it was time for me to drag her down. I was over in the kitchen getting her breakfast when she comes down just sobbing and says "My pants are wet". It was sort of hard to understand so I asked if we went potty thinking that's what she meant but she says "I have cry on my pants". Again, I wasn't quite getting it so I asked her to say it again. "I have cry on my pants from my eyes. I need you to wipe it off." Meltdown over, on our way to school happy as can be.

Pizza Party

Last Friday we decided to get some ingredients and make our own pizzas at home. We picked up a wheat crust for us and let Ally make her own on a wheat pita. She had a great time painting on the sauce and adding cheese and peperoni. They turned out great so we will definitely do this more often and start experimenting with more exotic toppings and sauces.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

It has been so warm here all week, we got to dig out the shorts and play outside a lot. Ally helped put up some decorations for St. Patrick's day and Karl cooked his own corned beef and cabbage feast. We had some friends over to watch basketball and hang out after a busy day at the park for Ally and Karl and at work for me. The weather was beautiful and Ally had a great weekend!

March Madness

In honor of Ally's love of basketball and her ridiculous knowledge of college sports, we had Ally fill out a March Madness bracket and join our online bracket and my office pool. I printed out photos of all of the team logos and we showed Ally each match up with the logo and team name. She was very interested in doing the first found of games but then her attention slowly started to fade. We tried not to change her mind too often but she picked a couple of major upsets. She clearly had an affinity for bird mascots and teams with red. She also loved the Murray State horse. Karl just expected her to take Purdue all the way but she surprised us both and went away from both Purdue and Wisconsin. Her final four included UNLV, Ohio State, Kansas and Murray State with Kansas as her champion because she liked the "jayhawk in the sweater." As of today, she is in 4th place in the online pool and beating both of us. She correctly picked Lehigh over Duke and Ohio over Michigan but the UNLV loss hurt her. This was mostly a psychology experiment for me but she had fun and it will be fun to see where she ends up!

Corey's Big Move

Corey has officially began his big boy job! He was named the Assistant Athletic Director for Development and Director of the Big Blue Scholarship Fund at Utah State a few weeks ago. Dad flew out to Vegas on Friday to help him pack up and to make the 8 hour drive from Vegas to Logan, UT. Taking this position is a huge step in his career and we are so excited for him. He will be responsible for the fundraising efforts to support Utah State student-athletes and the operations of the department. Still hard to believe that both or us work in the same industry and have similar career goals. He is big time now!

Bike Riding

Waiting for the warm weather to last so Ally can ride her new bike from Christmas all over the neighborhood. We better invest in a helmet.

Winter Sickness

Its no surprise that the winter cold/flu season has infected our house. Its been a roller coaster few weeks that started with Karl getting the stomach flu right when he was supposed to leave for a conference in Las Vegas. It was so bad that he ended up cancelling the whole trip to stay home in bed. It took 3 full days for him to recover but now he is back to normal and feeling fine. For me its been an on-and-off cold/cough for a few weeks. The week after Karl had the flu I felt the worst for a day or two but I seem to have kicked it now.

For Ally, she had been fighting a cold for a few weeks just like me and it made her so crabby and tired. It finally got the best of her with a cough that kept her up most of the night for 2 nights. We tried elevating her matress, vapor rub, humidifier, etc... but nothing was working. I decided to take her to the doctor just to be sure it wasn't bronchitis because a cough has never really been one of her key symptoms before. Turns out her chest and lungs were fine but both ears were infected. Got her on antibiotics and all was improving (including her mood finally) until last week Monday when she spiked a 102 fever that would not go away. Karl was out of town and I stayed home with her on Tuesday but still couldn't get her fever down. She was happy as could be and acting totally fine so I called the doctor for advice in the afternoon. He decided to switch her antibiotic to a stronger one to see if that would help and sure enough, gave her a dose of the new stuff with some Tylenol and she was back down to a normal temp by bedtime.

We know that we are very lucky to rarely have any health issues to deal with. Unfortunately having a little one in day care means that when she brings it home, we all get it and most of the time its worse for us than for her. I have also learned through this that when Ally acts out of control crabby that she has an ear infection!
